Distribution: Occurring east of the Cascades crest in Washington; Washington to California, east to the Great Plains.

Habitat: Sagebrush steppe habitat in dry areas, often where sandy.

Flowers: May-June (September-October)

Description:
General:

Strongly glandular perennial, the stems 3-6 dm. tall, freely branching.

Leaves:

Leaves trifoliate, greenish, leaflets narrowly elliptic-oblanceolate to narrowly obovate, 2-3 cm. long; stipules free of the petioles, the lower ones up to 2 cm. long, the upper reduced.

Flowers:

Inflorescence of fairly dense, 10- to 40-flowered racemes on axillary peduncles that are shorter than the leaves; flowers pea-like, 4-7 mm. long, white to gray-blue, the keel often bluish tipped; calyx bell-shaped, the 5 teeth equal, very short; banner only slightly longer than the keel and oblong wings.

Fruits:

Pod 4-5 mm. long, elliptic-globose, strongly glandular-warty.
